Friday’s national forecast

An anticyclone covers New Zealand today bringing mainly settled weather, some instability this afternoon / evening about the Bay Of Plenty and East Cape however.

North Island
Mostly sunny about Northland and Auckland with southwesterly winds. Mostly sunny about the Waikato also although as one heads into the Bay Of Plenty expect cloud to build, especially this afternoon with isolated showers developing. Showers may become heavy with thunderstorms then easing this evening. Winds from the southwest for most, tending northeast for the Bay Of Plenty.

Mostly sunny for the lower western North Island, light winds tend onshore in the afternoon. Chance of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening about some inland areas. Mostly cloudy along the east coast with showers easing and dry spells increasing from afternoon, winds from the northeast. High’s in the low to mid twenties for most, perhaps late twenties about some inland western areas.

South Island
Morning cloud breaks away in the east then mostly sunny this afternoon. Mostly sunny elsewhere however a few wisps of high cloud start to increase over the lower South Island during the day. Showers move into Fiordland this evening then a few spots of rain spread into Southland / Otago overnight. Northeasterlies freshen up this afternoon along the east coast, winds are moderate from the north or northwest elsewhere.

High’s in the low to mid twenties for most, perhaps late twenties about parts of inland Southland / inland Otago.
