Friday’s national forecast

A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a low centred just off the West Coast of the South Island eases during the day while a front over northeastern parts of the North Island clears away during this morning.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Any morning showers clear (early rain for the Bay Of Plenty) then expect sunny spells with breezy southwesterly winds.
Highs: 24-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Areas of cloud the odd shower, sunny spells may break through now and then also. Breezy west to southwestely winds change southeast later in the evening.
Highs: 19-23

Eastern North Island
Morning rain clears Gisborne then sunny areas increase, sunny areas increase earlier on elsewhere. A few showers move into the Wairarapa from late afternoon then further north later in the evening. Winds from the southwest.
Highs: 23-27

Wellington
Sunny spells. The odd shower or some rain moves in during the afternoon as northwesterly winds change southerly.
High: 20

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas in the morning then southeasterly winds pick up from afternoon bringing cloudy periods and the odd patchy shower.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury
Morning rain eases to the odd patchy shower, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

West Coast
Rain, clearing around midday then sunny areas increase. South to southwesterly winds ease during the day.
Highs: 18-20

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, clearing in the evening for inland areas. Some sun breaks through from afternoon about Central Otago. Cool southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-17
