A low pressure system moves over the North Island today with an easterly quarter airflow over the country tending southwest later in the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas with the odd shower about, downpours possible also especially this afternoon. Overnight winds change strong southwest bringing rain for Northland then Auckland.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with a few showers, rain overnight especially about Taranaki with a chance of heavy falls. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-16

Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy with a few showers or drizzle patches, northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-17

Wellington
Rain with gusty southerly winds.
High: 13
Marlborough & Nelson
Some rain or drizzle, gusty southerlies tend southwest overnight.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury
Patchy rain or drizzle, southerlies tend southwest this afternoon then freshen later on. Snow flurries to 500m about South Canterbury, 800m further north, gradually lifting during today.
High: 8

West Coast
Plenty of high cloud, a few showers mainly this morning then becoming drier this afternoon. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Southland & Otago
Sunny spells about Southland. Otago looking cloudier however still mainly dry inland, nearer the coast expect some patchy drizzle with snow flurries to 400m this morning then gradually lifting during the day. East to northeast winds.
Highs: 5-9
