Friday’s national forecast

A northwesterly airflow lies over most of New Zealand today while a ridge lies over Auckland and Northland. Quite warm for many in the east today and in fact many North Island regions. Getting a little unstable about Northland this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

A mostly sunny morning, isolated showers develop in the afternoon possibly heavy then clearing later in the evening about Northland and perhaps to a lesser extent the Coromandel. A chance of thunderstorms too mainly about Northland. Light winds for most with afternoon sea breezes about coastal areas.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Some morning cloud breaking away to mostly sunny weather, west to northwest winds.
Highs: 23-26
 
Eastern North Island
Sunny with gentle north to northwesterly winds for most, east to northeast winds about parts of coastal Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the afternoon.
Highs: 27-30
 
Wellington
Sunny areas and a few clouds about, breezy north to northwesterly winds.
High: 21
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly sunny with light winds in the morning, afternoon north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 24-30
 
Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud from late afternoon or evening, northerly winds.
High: 28
 
West Coast
Mostly cloudy with patchy showers or drizzle, areas of rain at times about South Westland. Northwesterly winds.
High: 20
 
Southland & Otago
High cloud thickens from morning, the odd spot of rain possible mainly in the afternoon. Breezy west to northwesterly winds ease in the evening, light winds about coastal Otago.
Highs: 23-25
