Friday’s national forecast

A westerly airflow sits over the North Island today bringing cloudy areas in the west with a few patchy showers about, drier out east from Gisborne through to the Wairarapa with some sun. A weak ridge over the South Island to start then a notherly airflow develops during the afternoon and evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy with the odd light shower, some rain around midday for a time before easing again. The Waikato and Bay Of Plenty see drier weather into the afternoon with sunny areas even possible, the odd shower continuing further north till evening. West to northwest winds.
Highs: 21-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Morning cloud with some early drizzle then breaking to sunny areas in the afternoon, westerly breezes.
Highs: 20-24

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, light winds in the morning then afternoon easterly breezes for most.
Highs: 25-26

Wellington

Sunny areas, southerly winds tend northerly in the afternoon. Cloud thickens evening.
High: 20

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny although cloud a little more common about Tasman Bay with some late evening rain possible there. Light winds in the morning then afternoon north to northeasterly winds for both regions.
Highs: 22-24

Canterbury

Morning cloud breaks to afternoon sunny areas, ENE winds becoming brisk near the coast however winds remaining light further inland.
Highs: 17-20

West Coast

Cloudy areas and some sun now and then, cloud thickens with patchy showers about Buller from late afternoon or evening. Light winds tend westerly.
High: 18-20

Southland & Otago

Mostly sunny about Central Otago and Southland with westerly breezes, tending light southerly in the afternoon for Southland. Sunny areas and some cloud about coastal Otago, winds becoming breezy from the ENE in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-23
