Friday’s national forecast

The shorter the forecast, the better the weather.

That’s not always true, but today it’s right on the money.

Unless you were hoping for rain.  Then you will have to wait until Monday.

But if you were hoping for dry and settled weather with a healthy dose of sunshine, today is your day.  Just about everywhere in New Zealand is looking at a pleasant Friday.  A nice way to start winter.

Across, the deep south of the South Island, the skies could lean more toward cloudy than sunny.  But for the rest of the country, look for a mainly sunny day with average temperatures.

I guess the start of winter depends on who you ask.

The winter solstice is indeed 3 weeks away yet.  However, it is very common in OZ and NZ to think of the beginning of winter as the first June.

Even in the United States, for some people the seasons begin on the first of the month that has the equinox or solstice.  These are called the "meteorological seasons".  Although the "official" start is based on the actually equinox or solstice.

Cheers, Howard

Hi,

Hows the weather looking for Rotorua over the long weekend? Seems to be different reports from different meteorology companies! Metvuw shows clear, whereas Met Service shows showers Saturday & Sunday. Who to believe!!!

Very tough call at this point.

Our thinking is; very small chances for rain tomorrow.  Slightly better for Sunday.  Good chance for rain on Monday.

This is still a forecast that is subject to change though.  Just not real happy with any of the computer models at this point.

Stay tuned…

I think some parts of the south island will see rain well before monday.
