Friday night’s national forecast

Westerlies once again cover the country tonight although the flow isn’t very strong, mainly Southland will experience the breeziest winds. Showers for the West Coast of the South Island with drier weather in the east. Cloudy periods in the west of the North Island, clear skies out east there.

Auckland & Northland
Areas of cloud with light southwesterlies, low risk of a brief light shower floating about otherwise expect a mainly dry night.
Low tonight: 7-8

Bay Of Plenty
Mainly clear with light southwesterlies.
Low tonight: 5

Central North Island & Waikato
Areas of cloud with light southwesterly breezes.
Lows tonight: 1-4

Eastern North Island
Sunny with light winds, tending northeast in the afternoon for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Low tonight: 3-4

Western North Island
Cloudy periods with westerly breezes. Winds tend more southwest about northern Taranaki. There is the low risk of a brief light shower or drizzle patch at times later in the night.
Low tonight: 7-8

Wellington
Mainly clear skies with northerly breezes, some cloud later in the night.
Low tonight: 8

Nelson
Mainly clear, there could be some high cloud. Light southwest winds.
Low tonight: 4-5

Marlborough
Mainly clear with light winds, there may be a few small patches of high cloud.
Low tonight: 3-4

Canterbury
Mainly clear with light winds, some high cloud later in the night.
Low tonight: 1-3

West Coast
Mainly cloudy with showers at times, westerly winds.
Lows tonight: 5-6

Coastal Otago
Some high cloud, light winds tend northwest.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Central Otago
High cloud, a few showers may spread from the west at times towards dawn. Northwesterlies.
Lows tonight: 3-4

Southland
Cloudy periods with the chance of a shower, especially towards dawn. West to northwest winds.
Lows tonight: 6-7
