The gale force nor’westers bumped temperatures up today across eastern areas of the South Island.

A southerly moved through this afternoon dropping Christchurch from 25 to just 12 in just a couple of hours.

As of 4:45pm the main rain band was just about to move into Auckland where winds have picked up considerably this afternoon.

Today’s warmest centre was Kaikoura on 26. 

The coolest main centre was Invercargill on 11.
