Auckland rain radar still offline – update from MetService

MetService has provided WeatherWatch with a further status update on the outage of the Auckland rain radar, which is due to an issue with the communications technology.

“The third-party provider who maintains and services this for MetService has received the specialist part they have been waiting on, but unfortunately, they have not been able to get to the radar site today. The site is located on a hilltop close to Warkworth is only accessible via helicopter.

Given the current severe weather risks it is unlikely that they will be able to get to the site on Tuesday.

We realise that this is a frustrating situation but assure that we have been doing all we can to ensure this is a top-level priority of the third-party provider.

As you’ll be aware there is some coverage provided by nearby Northland and Bay of Plenty radars.

We thank you for your understanding and patience and will provide another update as soon as we have more information and/or an ETA on the fix.” – End statement.

We appreciate MetService keeping us up to date on the status of the offline Auckland rain radar.

Although the photo, if it is the radar, clearly shows cars?

Says at the bottom of the story it’s a file photo from another site in Northland.
