Interesting article from āSevere Weather Europeā about the interplay between North and South pole weather and how they influence each other.
And how a stratospheric warming event is about to unfold over the Southern Hemisphere, pushing the Polar Vortex far off center, disrupting its dynamics.

you guys are awesome guys. do you think rainfall forecasts totals might break in local places tonight in heavy downpours,thunderstorms? heavy rain watch in place too.

At top of page for New Plymouth it says south easterlies but in hourly forecast it says west south west so which is correct!!!

Hi Ray, sorry I canāt see what youāre seeing ā it says westerlies, turning south-east. Thereās low pressure coming into the North Island on Friday ā that means all 360 degrees of wind directions are possible in some parts of the North Island for a time.
If itās confusing at WW, please visit https://www.ruralweather.co.nz/forecasts/New%20Plymouth,%20Taranaki and you can see it more clearly how W winds today turn E tonight, then SE, then S tomorrow, before SW again on Friday PM.

Have a party in Auckland on Sat! Forecast seems to be changing every few hours with the latest showing light rain across the morning through to early arvo. When will we have a clearer idea of whats going to happen? Love your work

Hi James, check out my video today ā looks a bit showery with SW winds picking up at times. With this sort of set up it takes until closer to the day to lock it in (due to the low itself moving through on Friday) but SW winds after a low at this time of year can be gusty with showers. I just wanted to know what the following wind terms mean:
Blustery, fresh, strong, brisk, breezy, fairly breezy, gale, severe gale, etc. What are the differences between all of these?

Itās probably because itās forecasting high cloud and overdoing it with the icon. Check the data at RuralWeather.co.nz to make moer sense of it. Weāre working on this problem.
