As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.

We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

Thanks for your support!

Don’t forget to check out our RuralWeather.co.nz website (great for event planning or attending + camping!) and also, our brand new Weather Alerting App!

Is it no longer the case that low pressure will dominate our weather for the next few weeks? I didn’t think high pressure was expected any time soon.

WW Forecast Team on 22/07/2024 4:49am

Hi there, in winter beyond 10 days can be very tricky – high pressure over Aussie is half affecting us this week, then briefly crosses over NZ.
Chaotic / neutral weather patterns like this spit out both lows and highs and the most tricky part about longer range forecasting in NZ is trying to pinpoint precisely where those controlling highs will eventually track (they only have to move slightly faster to replace a low). It’s why we’re not big fans of overly long range forecasts for NZ.

This is one of those weather pattern/storm that is more informative to follow on your RAIN FORECAST as most of the rain is further out to sea than RAIN RADAR can cover. If you haven’t tried the rain forecast before, have a look, it’s interesting.

hey ww team. a great job as always. I have noticed a pattern this week in auckland. monday was patchy rain. tuesday foggy morning, sunny afternoon. wednesday was patchy rain again. today (thursday) foggy morning again(clearing to sunshine) and tomorrow is rain. quite a pattern here.

WW Forecast Team on 17/07/2024 11:00pm

We’ve noticed the same thing to Josh 🙂 Quite an odd week for northern NZ with so much extra warmth – very different to southern NZ also having fog but without the rain or warmth.

Cheers

i soppose that “SSW” thing is having a effect and causing all these low pressure. I do know its normal to have low pressure in winter. but seeing a pattern like this is a bit strange.
