This weekend is providing the best opportunity in some time for thunderstorms – but where are they likely to develop?

WeatherWatch.co.nz says a few thunderstorms are possible between Taranaki and Northland, including Auckland, but says they will be isolated.

The main thunder risk is going to be in Southland and up the West Coast, closer to the centre of the low and where the coldest air will be moving in.

A few may also make it around to Canterbury as the cold change comes through however the risk is considered low by WeatherWatch.co.nz.

Below are the crown forecaster’s Thunderstorm Outlook maps for Saturday.
