There are big changes happening behind the scenes with WeatherWatch.co.nz and our weekday videos.
The NZ Herald has confirmed they have ended our longstanding agreement to provide weather videos during weekdays as NZME looks to cut even more costs. While we’re naturally disappointed we also appreciate the opportunities we’ve had in our several years there and wish them all the best with their changing media landscape.
This year we embark on a new journey, one that better connects with you all – instead of videos produced here and there by other outlets we will be making all our own content – and more often. This will be done via a new studio currently being built in downtown Auckland at Bauer Digital. (Who is Bauer? Click here to see their brands)
Our new weather videos will be more detailed than before – and we’ll have a much stronger ability to create better content that is focused on the main weather headlines of the week, especially when a significant event is impacting New Zealand. We also want to involve you more – with your photos, videos and local updates.
NZ is the only country in the western world where the bulk of the mainstream media prefer a Government forecaster instead of the private sector.
We’re very excited to be working with Bauer to give New Zealanders more choice in weather news and more honest accountability.
So watch this space in early to mid March (we hope!) as we look to launch better weather videos online – the updates and video players will also be more consistent. It’s early days yet but as we get going we’re hoping to introduce more video content focusing on other weather demands from around the country.
Also – don’t forget we’re back on CountryTV this year, Sky Channel 081. Every weeknight head weather forecaster Philip Duncan brings you a 10 minute detailed rural weather forecast, following Mark Leishman’s news update. You’ll find us on The Daily Report, weeknights at 7pm on CountryTV.

Great news Phil & WW, have missed your videos both on WW and the Herald and was wondering what was happening. You have been severely missed and I think the Herald has made a mistake here, but if they are struggling to make ends meet I can understand.
I am looking forward to seeing the new venture in action and wish you well with it.

Hi Phil
Great news – your excellent videos are greatly missed. In my opinion, WW videos leave all other Weather videos in the dust for content, context, and most of all accuracy. As an Auckland viewer, your videos have been missed.
All the very best to you and your team. Go Weather Watch!!

I look forward to your new videos.
A little slow catching up with the news, more outside time with Monarchs.
Bauer opportunities sounds exciting!
Great news!

Hi Phil & team
I look forward to the new format with great interest. Quite frankly I believe you will be far better off without the Herald, they are experiencing a slow death of main stream print media.
The videos you have been producing were great & I never bother with TV weather as I already know what to expect anyway.
The way people access news & other information is changing & I am sure you won’t regret making a change yourselves. I wish you the very best in the new venture.
Cheers
Dave
