Wednesday night’s national forecast

A ridge lies over the country tonight keeping things mostly settled however a depression in the Tasman Sea starts to affect the upper North Island in terms of cloud and then some rain for the far north.

Northland
Cloudy with easterly breezes picking up a little by dawn, the odd shower develops overnight mainly in the east. Some rain for areas north of Kaitaia by dawn.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Auckland
Cloudy skies with light east to southeasterly winds developing overnight. There may be the odd shower develop for northern parts of Auckland overnight also.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Clear spells this evening however high cloud develops overnight moving in from the north. Light winds.
Lows tonight: -1-7

Eastern North Island
Areas of cloud about Wairarapa spread north this evening, south to southwest breezes.
Lows tonight: 2-3

Western North Island
Mainly clear skies tonight with east to southeast winds, some high cloud develops overnight moving in from the north.
Low tonight: 3-4

Wellington
Areas of cloud with light southerly breezes.
Low tonight: 6-7

Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly clear skies tonight with light winds, perhaps some cloud around dawn.
Lows tonight: -2-1

Canterbury
Clear spells and some cloud with light southwest breezes.
Lows tonight: -1-1

West Coast
Clear skies tonight with light winds.
Lows tonight: 1-3

Southland & Otago
Cloudy periods about Southland with southwest breezes, the odd shower at times mainly in the west. Some cloud about Central Otago, light southerly winds and the low risk of a brief spit now and then mainly in southern areas of the district. Cloudy spells for coastal Otago with west to southwest winds.
