Wednesday night’s national forecast

As a low pressure system moves closer to northern New Zealand easterly winds pick up about the far north, drizzle patches and some rain moves into a few areas also. Much of the South Island is covered in cloud apart from Nelson and Marlborough, Southland sees some scattered rain.

Northland
Brisk easterly winds. Cloudy with drizzle patches, some rain this evening.
Lows tonight: 12-13

Auckland
Cloudy with brisk easterlies developing, chance of some drizzle towards dawn.
Low tonight: 12

Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy with easterly breezes, chance of a drizzle patch towards dawn.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Waikato
High cloud with light easterly breezes.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Central North Island
Increasing high cloud, light winds.
Lows tonight: 2-3

Eastern North Island
Mainly clear with some high cloud increasing, light north to northeast winds. Some cloud about Gisborne may deliver a drizzle patch or two later in the night.
Low tonight: 4-5

Western North Island
High cloud with light winds, skies a bit cloudier about northern Taranaki.
Low tonight: 4-5

Wellington
Areas of cloud with northerly breezes easing.
Low tonight: 8-9

Nelson
Clear with some cloud, light winds.
Low tonight: 3-4

Marlborough
Some high cloud tonight, west to northwest winds ease this evening.
Low tonight: 2-3

Canterbury
High cloud with light winds, could be a few low cloud or fog patches.
Low tonight: 1-2

West Coast
Clear areas, some cloudy spells. Light winds. Drizzle for Fiordland with north to northeast winds, rain about southern Fiordland.
Lows tonight: 3-4

Otago
Mainly cloudy skies tonight with light winds.
Low tonight: 2-5

Southland
Periods of rain with southwest breezes.
Low tonight: 6
