Tuesday’s national forecast

A southwesterly airflow eases over the North Island today with an anticyclone lying in the Tasman Sea. Northwesterly winds build over the South Island bringing some high cloud and warm temperatures out east, cloud areas and rain about Fiordland in the west.

Mostly sunny with a few clouds. Breezy southwesterly winds, easing in the evening.
High: 17

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Mostly sunny with a few clouds, skies will be clear and sunny about the Bay Of Plenty. Expect southwesterly breezes which ease in the evening.
Highs: 17-21

Eastern North Island
Chance of an early shower any of which clear then becoming mostly sunny by midday. Cool south to southwesterly breezes ease dying out in the evening.
Highs: 17-18

Western North Island
Mostly sunny with westerly breezes tending southwest about northern Taranaki.
Highs: 17-18

Wellington
Sunny with northerly breezes developing in the morning, a little breezy in the afternoon.
High: 16

Nelson
Sunny, light winds tend northerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-18

Marlborough
Sunny with northerly breezes in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud developing in the morning, northeasterly winds near the coast and northwesterlies inland. Northwesterlies may spread through to the coast in the evening.
Highs: 18-21

West Coast
Cloudy spells with light north to northeasterly winds. Patchy rain or drizzle about Fiordland.
High: 15

Central Otago
High cloud increasing in the morning with northerly winds. Northerlies gusty at times from afternoon. Expect a few sunny areas now and then.
Highs: 16-18

Southland and Coastal Otago
Plenty of high cloud with northerly winds becoming strong and gusty in the afternoon. A few sunny areas at times.
Highs: 18-21
