Tuesday’s national forecast

An anticyclone centred in the Tasman Sea brings settled weather for most of the country today although a few showers clear this morning about the east coast of the North Island. In the afternoon a front approaches the far south of New Zealand bringing thickening high cloud.

Northland
Mainly sunny with south to southwest breezes, there may be some cloud at times in the east.
High: 14

Auckland
Sunny with southerly breezes, easing in the evening.
Highs: 13-14

Bay Of Plenty & Waikato
Sunny with south to southwest breezes.
High: 12-14

Central North Island
Mostly sunny weather with light south to southwesterly breezes.
Highs: 8-10

Eastern North Island
Morning showers clear to a mostly sunny afternoon with cool southwesterlies dying out.
Highs: 11-12

Western North Island
Mostly sunny after any morning cloud clears, light southerlies at first tend westerly in the afternoon. Southwesterlies remain for northern Taranaki for most of the day.
Highs: 12-13

Wellington
Early showers clear to mostly sunny weather with southerly wids dying out. Northerlies develop in the afternoon.
Highs: 11-12

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with light winds, some thin high cloud later in the day for a time.
Highs: 11-13

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with with some thin high cloud about, high cloud thickens up about for a time in the evening. Light winds tend northeast near the coast.
High: 13

West Coast
Mainly sunny with light winds. Some cloud develops about South Westland in the afternoon turning to showers in the evening then rain at night. Showers move into North Westland overnight. Winds from the northwest later in the day.
High: 13

Coastal Otago
Morning sunny spells however high cloud thickens from mid morning. Winds will be light. Late evening there could be a few spots of rain.
High: 10

Central Otago
Morning sunny spells however high cloud thickens from mid morning with northwest breezes. At night a few showers spread into western parts of Central Otago.
Highs: 6-7

Southland
Morning sunny spells however expect thickening high cloud with northwest breezes. In the afternoon a few showers develop which then clear at night.
Highs: 10-11
