Tuesday’s national forecast

A weak area of low pressure moves onto the country today, winds will be light for most with afternoon sea breezes. Areas of morning cloud break to sunny spells, chance of an isolated afternoon shower for some.

Auckland & Northland
Sunny spells with southwesterly breezes, chance of a shower during the day (mainly morning) but for the most part conditions will be dry.
Highs: 23-24

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells with light winds in the morning tending westerly after midday
(northerlies in the afternoon for the Bay Of Plenty). A few isolated showers
develop in the afternoon mainly about inland Bay Of Plenty and eastern parts of
the Central North Island, these showers could be heavy then clearing in the
evening.

Eastern North Island

Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, light winds and afternoon
easterlies. In the afternoon isolated showers develop about the ranges of Hawkes
Bay and Gisborne, a few of which may be heavy then clearing in the
evening.
High: 24

Taranaki

Mostly sunny with light southerlies in the morning then afternoon westerly
breezes. Cloud increasing overnight with showers moving in.
High: 22

Western North Island

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, light winds at first then afternoon
westerly breezes.
High: 23

Wellington

Cloudy periods and a few sunny spells, northerly breezes brisk at times
from late afternoon.
High: 20

Nelson

Mostly sunny after any morning cloud breaks away, light winds at first then
afternoon northerly breezes.
High: 23

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, light winds in the morning then
afternoon northerlies. Chance of an isolated shower during the afternoon
inland.
Highs: 25-26

Canterbury

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, east to northeast breezes ease in the
evening
Highs: 22-23

West Coast

Cloudy periods and a few sunny spells, northwesterly breezes. A few showers
move in during the evening but they may only be brief with long dry spells
too.
High: 19

Coastal Otago

Cloudy spells with northeasterly breezes, winds tend southerly in the
evening with the odd shower or drizzle patch moving in.
Highs: 17-18

Central Otago

Thick high cloud with light winds, the odd spot of rain at times especially
afternoon onwards.
Highs: 18-20

Southland

Cloudy with light southerlies from morning, scattered rain from
afternoon.
High: 17
