System lacks punch overnight

Although isolated areas received some heavy downpours and high winds overnight, many of the populated areas of the upper North Island didn’t experience the severity that was expected.

Winds did pick up and became strong and gusty at times during the night but overall the weather system moved through relatively quickly.

Wellingtonians may have had a bit of a rough start this morning but conditions are expected to ease and clear later today.

Temperatures are in the mid to high teens across many parts of the North Island this morning whereas mainlanders have a cooler morning with plenty of cloud cover and rain or drizzle off and on.

At the moment had light to moderate rain on and off all morning, but currently 15C and no wind at all.
Some weak CU congestus about, if the sun manages to come out this afternoon there could be some thunderstorms about Canterbury.
