The southeastern states are in for cold mornings this weekend following a trend of below average mornings this July.

The passage of a cold front over the east coast is bringing cold air northwards. By Saturday, a high pressure system looks to take over, bringing with it clear skies. This combination of weather patterns will cause morning temperatures to drop significantly.

Sydney will potentially experience its coldest morning this year on Sunday, forecast to be 5 degrees. This will be 3 degrees below average for July minimum temperatures. Canberra, although not likely to be the coldest day this year, is still forecast to be a very brisk -6 degrees, more than 5 degrees below average for July. 

Morning temperatures in Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart are expected to be around average for the weekend. 

Capital cities across the southeast, with the exception of Adelaide, have been experiencing below average mornings this July. This is especially true for Canberra, which so far is more than 3 degrees below average for the month.

Whilst mornings this weekend will be cold, the following week should see a return to warmer mornings with increased cloud cover due to a new low pressure system moving in.
