Sunday’s national forecast

The nice weather that much of the country has been enjoying is about to come to end.

At least for a few days.

But, starting today, showers will overspread both islands.  The showers will continue to cover the South Island this morning.  Southland, Otago and the West Coast will all see showers.  In fact, some heavy falls are expected for Fiordland and the southern West Coast .  Heavy Rain Warnings are in effect for these areas.  Heavy falls are also possible for Nelson and the northern West Coast this evening.

For the rest of the South Island, as well as the North Island, showers will increase in coverage and intensity as we go throughout the day.  So, if you aren’t getting wet this morning, you probably will be by this afternoon, or this evening at the latest.

As far as heavy falls for the North Island go, Taranaki and Wanganui could see heavy rain just after sunset.
