Sunday’s national forecast

A frontal system moves over the country today bringing wet weather to most. Areas exposed to the northeast like Nelson and the Bay Of Plenty will likely recieve heavy falls of rain. Heavy falls are also likely for eastern parts of the South Island from afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay Of Plenty, Central North Island
Rain develops during the morning becoming heavy by midday from Northland through to the Waikato, rain becomes heavy a bit later into the afternoon about the Bay Of Plenty and Central North Island, expect breezy northeasterlies. Rain eases later in the evening or overnight to the odd shower as winds change northwest.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island
Thick high cloud, the odd spot of rain possible. Rain develops in the afternoon then clears towards dawn the next morning. Northeasterly breezes.
High: 15-16

Western North Island
Rain develops early in the morning for northern Taranaki, becoming heavy in the afternoon before easing later in the evening as winds change northwest. Expect cloudy skies further south with rain moving in around mid to late morning, northeasterlies there too.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
Cloudy with spots of rain, rain becoming more persistent around midday then easing overnight. North to northeast winds.
High: 13-14

Marlborough & Nelson
Northeasterly breezes with rain, becoming heavy in the afternoon then easing overnight. Rain about Nelson will be heavy for much of the day, torrential falls are possible at times especially late morning onwards.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury
Rain, heavy at times especially inland about the foothills. Easterly breezes by midday.
Highs: 10-12

West Coast
Periods of rain with gusty easterlies developing, rain sometimes heavy about Buller, especially northeastern parts of Buller.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago
Cloudy with easterly breezes developing in the morning. Some rain at times then becoming heavy about coastal Otago especially in the north from evening. Southland may remain dry for much of the day with only brief rain at times if it occurs.
Highs: 8-11
