Saturday’s national forecast

Our current low pressure system slowly moves onto the North Island today, it’s main associated rain band clears the east coast of the North Island this morning and piles into the east coast of the South Island. The West Coast of the South Island should remain dry today.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with showers at times, dry spells too. Northerlies for the Auckland region and winds tending a little more northwest about Northland. Showers may be heavy at times. Winds change southwest overnight for all with showery conditions easing.
Highs: 15-16

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Showers at times, possibly heavy and thundery about the Bay Of Plenty. Expect dry periods too with the odd sunny break now and then. Northeasterly breezes.
Highs: 13-16

Eastern North Island
Periods of rain in the morning, clearing with sunny spells breaking through at times in the afternoon. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Western North Island
South of Taranaki expect some early morning rain to clear then expect sunny spells with some cloud, east to southeast winds. For Taranaki, easpecially in the north expect east to northeast winds with morning rain easing to showers which then clear later in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington
Brief spells of rain at times, mainly morning. Long dry spells into the afternoon. Breezy east to southeasterly winds. Skies will be mostly cloudy.
High: 13

Nelson
Occasional showers with east to southeasterly breezes, showers may clear for certain periods of time late afternoon onwards.
Highs: 12-13

Marlborough
Rain, heavy falls possible at times, breezy east to southeasterly winds.
High: 12

Canterbury
Periods of rain with east to northeast winds, rain may ease off to drizzle at times.
Highs: 11-12

West Coast
High cloud with a few sunny spells, east to southeast winds.
High: 15-16

Coastal Otago
Drizzle patches with southeasterly winds tending east to northeast around midday.
Highs: 9-10

Southland & Central Otago
Morning showers clear then a few sunny areas develop during the afternoon, southeasterlies at first then east to northeast winds after midday.
Highs: 10-11
