Saturday’s national forecast

A northerly airflow lies over the country ahead of a low and associated front which moves over the country on Sunday. Generally sunnier weather out east today with cloudier skies in the west, some rain for the West Coast of the South Island. A few patchy showers about the north of the North Island, dry elsewhere.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Mostly cloudy skies with the odd sunny break now and then, sunny breaks longer in inland areas namely the CNI. Expect northeasterly breezes. Chance of a brief light shower at times during the day in the east north of about the Coromandel, showers at times for most of the day about Northland.

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny after any morning cloud clears, light winds and afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 23-24
 
Western North Island
Cloudy areas to start the day then expect a mostly sunny afternoon. Light northerlies tend onshore in the afternoon but still quite light.

Nelson & Wellington
Sunny and cloudy spells with northerly breezes, brisk about the capital. Low chance of a brief morning shower about the capital also any of which clear.
Highs: 19-22
 
Marlborough
Sunny with some high cloud, north to northwest breezes.
Highs: 24-25
 
Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northeasterly breezes about the coast and light winds inland. A few spots of rain possible overnight spreading from the west.
Highs: 23-25
 
West Coast
Drizzle or patchy rain becoming more persistent at night. Northeasterly breezes tend northerly overnight.
High: 19
 
Southland & Otago
High cloud with north to northeast breezes, chance of a shower about Southland in the morning otherwise dry. Overnight some brief rain may spread from the west for a time.
