A westerly quarter airflow lies over the country today, showery conditions mainly in the west with predominantly sunnier and drier weather out east.

Auckland & Northland
Periods of cloud with a shower or two, mainly in the morning then drying out during the afternoon. Sunny spells now and then, more frequent midday onwards. West to southwesterly winds (brisk about Auckland) ease later in the day.

Bay Of Plenty

Mostly sunny weather with brisk west to southwesterly winds, cloud may be a
bit more frequent during the morning.
Highs: 19-20

Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny spells with westerly winds becoming brisk at times by midday, there
may be a few brief showers about in the morning then drying out in the
afternoon.
Highs: 16-17

Eastern North Island

Mainly sunny skies with breezy west to southwest winds, chance of some
cloud and a morning shower about the Wairarapa.
Highs: 20-21

Western North Island

Some cloud with the odd brief shower possible in the morning, sunny areas
increase a little in the afternoon. Westerly winds becoming strong around
midday.
High: 16

Wellington

Any early showers clear then becoming mostly sunny, light winds at first
with northwesterlies strengthening from afternoon.
High: 17

Nelson

Mostly sunny with light winds in the morning then west to southwest winds
freshen from miday.
High: 19

Marlborough

Sunny with light winds in the morning, northwesterlies freshen in the
afternoon.
High: 22

Canterbury

Any early showers clearing then becoming mostly sunny in the morning, light
winds at first then northwesterlies freshen in the afternoon especially inland.
A few showers may develop along the coast south of Banks Peninsula in the
evening then overnight showers spread north.
High: 20

West Coast

Cloudy with showers, westerlies becoming brisk in the afternoon.
High: 13-14

Coastal Otago

Sunny areas and some cloud, west to southwest winds. Later in the evening a
spell of rain moves through, possibly heavy with hail then clearing
overnight.
High: 15

Central Otago

Morning sunny areas, cloud builds from midday with the odd shower possible.
Showers more likely from evening with a risk of hail. Westerly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Southland

Cloudy with the odd shower becoming persistent in the afternoon, strong
gusty westerlies. There may be some hail at times, mainly midday onwards.
High: 12
