Queenstown was the chilliest centre in the country first thing this morning with just 1 degree but Oamaru was giving them a run for their money with only 3 degrees.
Further north and showers have fallen over the greater Auckland area with temperatures in the mid teens.
Hicks Bay is the windiest spot with a sou’ easter gusting upward of 80kph.
