Monday’s national forecast

An anticyclone brings mainly settled conditions today, light winds for most with afternoon sea breezes. A few isolated showers get going about some inland areas afternoon and evening with a chance of thunderstorms about the top of the South Island and ranges of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

Northland
Mostly sunny with light winds, some high cloud develops after midday and there is the risk of evening shower or two.

Auckland
Mostly sunny with light winds, some high cloud develops later in the afternoon and there is the risk of an overnight shower.
High: 22

Central North Island, Bay Of Plenty, Waikato
Any morning cloud clears to mostly sunny weather and light winds, afternoon northerly breezes for the Bay Of Plenty. Risk of a late afternoon shower about eastern parts of the Central North Island. Also some high cloud moves down from the north in the evening.
Highs: 21-23

Eastern North Island
Morning cloud breaks away to mostly sunny skies, light winds and afternoon sea breezes. Afternoon and evening a few isolated showers develop about the ranges of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, a few of these could be heavy and thundery then clearing by midnight.
Highs: 20-21

Western North Island
Sunny spells after morning cloud breaks away, afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington
Chance of an early shower then expect sunny spells with northerly breezes.
High: 18

Nelson
Sunny spells with light winds and afternoon sea breezes, a few late afternoon and evening isolated showers possible inland a few of which could be heavy.
Highs: 19-21

Marlborough
Mostly sunny with light winds tending easterly in the afternoon near the coast. A few late afternoon and evening isolated showers, one or two may be heavy and thundery inland then clearing before midnight.
High: 19-21

Canterbury
Morning cloud breaks to afternoon sunny spells, east to northeast winds. Chance of an isolated shower or two about the high country in the afternoon then clearing later in the evening. There may be a drizzle patch or two overnight also as cloud thickens up again.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast
Mostly sunny after any morning cloud clears, light winds.
Highs: 19-20

Coastal Otago
Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells in the afternoon, easterly breezes develop by midday.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Central Otago
Mostly sunny after morning cloud clears, light winds tend southwesterly in the afternoon. Chance of a late afternoon isolated shower about Central Otago otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 17-24
