Monday’s national forecast

Settled over the South Island today although inland parts of Canterbury and the lower South Island could see isolated showers late afternoon / evening. East to southeast winds cover the North Island, sunny in the west south of Taranaki and about Wellington. Some cloud elsewhere with showers for some exposed northeastern areas, strong winds for some coastal areas in the northeast also.

Cloudy with patchy showers, brisk southeasterly winds strong on the east coast.

Auckland

Mostly cloudy with brisk southeasterly winds, a few sunny spells possible
this afternoon. Expect showers about GBI and the Coromandel to ease this
afternoon. Winds about GBI and northern Coromandel will likely be strong to gale
force from the southeast for much of today.
High: 20

Bay Of Plenty

Showers clearing this morning, sunny spells this afternoon. Breezy
southeasterly winds.
High: 21

Waikato

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells towards midday, east to southeast
winds.
High: 23

Central North Island

Mostly sunny with east to southeast winds, chance of an early shower in the
northeast otherwise dry.
Highs: 20-21

Eastern North Island
Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, chance of an early
light showr about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Easterly winds. North of Gisborne
expect showers at times during the day, more persistent this morning.

Highs: 17-18

Western North Island

Sunny with east to southeast winds, picking up a bit this afternoon. Chance
of an afternoon westerly about northern parts of Taranaki however. Warmer
temperatures just inland.

Wellington

Sunny with easterly winds.
High: 20

Nelson

Sunny, afternoon northerly winds then easing later in the evening. Warmer
temperatures inland.
High: 20-23

Marlborough

Sunny with easterly winds. Warmer temperatures inland.
Highs: 19-22

Canterbury

Sunny with easterly winds picking up a bit this afternoon, lighter winds
inland with warmer temperatures. Isolated showers possible about inland Mid and
South Canterbury late afternoon / evening some of which could be heavy.
Highs: 19-23

West Coast

Mostly sunny with light winds, afternoon sea breezes near the coast. Warm
to hot temperatures for some inland areas i.e. Reefton.
Highs: 19-27

Coastal Otago

Sunny with easterly winds, picking up a bit this afternoon.
High: 18

Central Otago

Mostly sunny with light winds, late afternoon / evening isolated showers
develop in the east possibly heavy with thunderstorms then clearing later.
Highs: 24-27

Southland

Mostly sunny with light winds, afternoon sea breezes near the coast. Late
afternoon / evening isolated showers develop inland possibly heavy with
thunderstorms then clearing later. Warmest temperatures inland.
Highs: 18-23
