Monday night’s national forecast

A low pressure system moves from west to east across the top of the North Island tonight, this brings a gradually developing southeasterly airflow. Most places will remain dry apart from north of Hawkes Bay and north of northern Auckland. The Coromandel may see a shower or two also. For the South Island an anticyclone slowly pushes in from the Tasman Sea although a southwesterly airflow along the east coast brings some cloud.

Northland
Areas of rain with easterly breezes, winds tend more southeasterly overnight. Rain becoming more restricted to eastern parts of Northland by morning.
Lows tonight: 10-11

Auckland
Some high cloud thickening this evening with easterly breezes, winds tend more southeast overnight at which point a shower or two may move into the north of Auckland.
Low tonight: 9

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
High cloud with light winds swinging round to the southeast overnight.
Lows tonight: 4-8

Eastern North Island
Clear skies with some high cloud gradually increasing this evening. Southerlies pick up overnight with increasing cloud, chance of a shower around dawn tomorrow north and about of Hawke’s Bay.
Lows tonight: 5-6

Western North Island
Mainly clear with some high cloud, westerlies ease this evening. Light winds overnight swing round to the southeast by dawn.
Lows tonight: 4-5

Wellington
Clear spells with northerlies easing this evening, southerlies develop overnight with increasing cloud. Chance of a shower by dawn otherwise mainly dry.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Nelson
Sea breezes die out this evening, mainly clear skies overnight with light winds.
Lows tonight: 2-3

Marlborough
Clear skies, light winds tend southerly later this evening.
Lows tonight: 2-3

Canterbury
Some cloud develops later this evening, light winds gradually tend southerly.
Low tonight: 3

West Coast
Clear skies with southwesterlies dying out this evening.
Lows tonight: 2-3

Coastal Otago
Cloudy spells with brisk southwesterlies, chance of a shower any of which clear before dawn.
Low tonight: 3-4

Central Otago
Clear with some cloud in the south and east. Southwesterlies ease this evening.
Lows tonight: -2-0

Southland
Mostly cloudy with southwesterly breezes, chance of the odd shower.
Lows tonight: 3-4
