Monday night’s national forecast

Mainly cloudy skies over the country tonight despite being under a ridge of high pressure. This is partly due to a stationary frontal system that lies just to the west of the country and a general easterly quater airflow.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy with the odd shower about, one or two showers could be heavy in the east overnight. Expect dry spells too. Light easterlies.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Easterlies tonight with mostly cloudy skies, any remaining showers about the Bay Of Plenty and Central North Island clear this evening. The odd shower remaining through most of the night for the Waikato.
Low tonight: 2-7

Eastern North Island
The odd light shower about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne with easterly quarter winds, long dry spells too. About Wairarapa expect cloudy spells and northeasterlies.
Low tonight: 5-6

Wellington & Western North Island
Mainly clear skies with light easterly quater winds, high cloud about Western North Island areas. A few showers about Taranaki clear this evening.
Low tonight: 6-7

Canterbury, Marlborough & Nelson
Cloudy periods. East to northeast winds, breezy about coastal Canterbury.
Low tonight: 5-6

West Coast
Cloudy spells with northeasterlies.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Coastal Otago
Cloudy spells with brisk northeasterlies, chance of a drizzle patch.
Low tonight: 7-8

Southland
Clear spells with northeasterly breezes.
Low tonight: 3-5
