A low with sub-tropical origins has meant a hot and humid night for most of New Zealand.

As of midnight most main centres were sitting above 20 degrees, some close to the mid 20s.

21 degrees – Auckland, Whitianga, Paeroa, Wanganui, Ohakea, Levin, Lower Hutt, Wellington, Blenheim.

20 degrees – Kaikohe, Whangaparaoa, Hamilton, Tauranga, Hastings, Hawera, Palmerston North, Paraparaumu, Nelson.
