Heavy rain closes roads, rain moving north

Roads in Nelson have been closed following heavy rain, and another 40 to 70 mm of rain is expected today while heavy rain continues to move into the North Island.

Maitai Valley Rd, Kokoroa Rd, Cable Bay Rd, Maori Pa Rd and the Manuka St Ford are all now closed in the Nelson region.

Council staff are monitoring the situation, especially with high tide due at around 2.30pm today.

The MetService predicts a further 40 to 70 mm of rain is expected until 5pm.

Meanwhile heavy rain is now setting in across the lower and western parts of the North Island.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says rain is affecting Wellington, Kapiti, Horowhenua, Manawatu and Taranaki.

Light rain is now falling in Auckland and will be heavier by the end of the day.

Hi Team. light rain shwrs starting here in the Mamaku/Kaimai’s, overcast with only very slight northerly wind. Temp is 14deg, baro 1025.
Looking at the sat pic central Plateau BOP looks likely to escape any heavy precipitation for the time being which is good as the water table is very high here in Mamaku Village.
BTW, never felt the BOP earthquake at 5.14pm yesterday
Cheers
