Friday’s national high the highest in 4 months

September has ended on a high – quite literally – with the Central Otago town of Alexandra basking on 23 degrees yesterday afternoon – the highest temperature recorded in New Zealand since May says WeatherWatch.co.nz.

The last time we had a national high of 23 degrees was four months ago on May 27th in Napier.  Since then no official temperature has reached above 22 degrees until yesterday.

Alexandra’s high temperature was created under clear blue skies and warm winds.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says a high of 24 or 25 is possible this weekend in the South Island as warmer winds crank up.  If that is the case it will also be May since that last happened.
