Friday’s national forecast

An anticyclone nudges onto the country today bringing slowly clearing skies to most. Still, a few showers are yet to be had along eastern areas of both Islands and Wellington. Showers clear for most in the evening however persist about Gisborne overnight.

Northland
Chance of an early shower mainly in the east then sunny spells increase to become mostly sunny in the afternoon. Southeasterly breezes ease during the afternoon to become light at night.
High: 12-13

Auckland
Thick high cloud decreasing and sunny spells increasing from morning, becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. South to southeast breezes.
Highs: 12-13

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Thick high cloud decreasing and sunny spells increasing from morning, light south to southeast breezes. About southern areas of the Central North Island (south of Lake Taupo) expect sunny spells to slowly increase from morning also with light southerlies, there is the risk though of a brief shower now and then which clears by evening otherwise conditions will be mainly dry.

Eastern North Island
Cloudy and cool with south to southwest breezes, showers become confined to Gisborne overnight.
High: 11-12

Western North Island
Sunny spells and some cloud with southeasterly breezes, there is even the risk of a brief shower at times about southern Taranaki. Conditions become clear later in the evening with southeasterlies dying out at night.  For northern Taranaki espect sunny skies for most of the day with southeasterly winds easing later on.

Wellington
Cloudy spells with the odd shower which clears overnight.
Highs: 9-10

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny weather with southerly breezes which ease dying out in the evening, some cloud about southern inland Marlborough clears during the morning. Sunny for Nelson with light winds.
Highs: 10-12

Canterbury
Sunny spells slowly increase to become mostly sunny in the afternoon, southwest breezes die out in the evening with frosts at night. About Christchurch a few showers clear in the afternoon, for Banks Peninsula and some hilly parts of North Canterbury the odd shower may hang about till evening then finally clear.

West Coast
Sunny with light winds, frosty morning and night about sheltered valleys.
High: 11-12

Southland and Coastal Otago
A few brief morning showers clear then mostly sunny in the afternoon, cool west to southwest winds die out by evening.
High: 8

Central Otago
Mostly sunny with light winds after areas of morning cloud clear. Frosty at night.
High: 4
