A front moving onto the South Island today means incoming rain or showers. The North Island has a ridge of high pressure holding on however the odd shower still possible especially in inland areas from afternoon.
Upper North Island
Northeasterly breezes with cloudy areas morning and night with sunny breaks by day. The odd shower may stick about Bay Of Plenty for much of the day, chance of drizzle morning and night elsewhere along eastern coastlines. About Waikato there is the risk of a brief afternoon shower.

Lower North Island
Northerly breezes tending northeast along the east coast and northwest about Wellington. A mix of sunny areas and some cloud, mainly dry however inland areas may experience an afternoon shower. Northwesterlies about Wellington increase during the day, rain later overnight with a southerly change.
HIGHS: 26-28 in the west, 24-25 on the east coast and about Wellington.
Upper South Island
Cloudy skies on the West Coast north of Hokitika with showers turning to rain in the afternoon, northwesterly winds change southwest in the evening with rain easing to showers then clearing overnight. Mild and warm about Marlborough and Canterbury with northwesterly breezes and increasing high cloud. Southerlies develop in Canterbury late afternoon or evening bringing cloud and the odd shower. The odd shower moves into Marlborough overnight. Nelson can expect increasing high cloud and northwesterlies, a few spots of rain possible from evening.
HIGHS: 19-20 on the West Coast. Low 20’s for Nelson. 27-30 in Canterbury and Marlborough.
Lower South Island
Breezy northwesterlies with thick high cloud, rain on the West Coast south of Hokitika with heavy falls. Winds change southwest about Southland and Otago late morning bringing some rain there. Rain clears in all areas in the evening.
