Friday night’s national forecast

Not much wind about tonight due to widely spaced isobars, Marlborough and Wellington see a gusty north to northwesterly airflow ease later this evening however. Of interest tonight is some beefy showers forming over southern parts of the Central North Island, they may move into Hawkes Bay this evening for a time.

Auckland & Northland
Mainly clear skies with sea breezes easing this evening, light winds
overnight.

Central North Island, Waikato
& Bay Of Plenty

Clear areas and some cloud with light winds, northerlies ease about the Bay
Of Plenty. Isolated showers about southern parts of the Central North Island
becoming heavy with thunderstorms then drifting east. Showers clear later.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-15

Eastern North Island

Showers about Gisborne clear, a mainly clear night ahead with east to
northeast breezes easing. Mainly clear about the Wairarapa. Sunny spells for Hawkes Bay, chance of isolated showers moving through this evening for a time,
they may be heavy with thunderstorms then clearing. Easterlies ease later this
evening.

Western North Island

Clear spells and some cloud, westerly breezes. Isolated showers about
inland Manawatu clearing this evening. Skies about Kapiti and northern Taranaki
mostly cloudy with the odd drizzle patch or light possible through the
night.

Wellington

Cloudy spells with brisk northerlies easing a little overnight, any
remaining light showers clear this evening.
Tonight’s Low: 15

Nelson

Mainly clear skies with breezy north to northeasterly winds easing later
this evening, light winds overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

Marlborough

High cloud this evening clearing then mainly clear skies overnight, gusty
northwesterlies ease later. Light winds overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Canterbury

Mainly clear skies, some cloud about South Canterbury. Areas of cloud
spread north this evening and overnight with light southwesterlies developing.
Isolated showers, some possibly heavy about the foothills over South and Mid
Cantebury clearing this evening.

West Coast
Areas of
cloud with light west to southwest breezes, drizzle patches about Fiordland may
turn to rain overnight.

Coastal Otago

Cloudy spells with sea breezes easing later this evening, any isolated
showers clearing before midnight.

Central
Otago

Some cloud with west to southwest breezes, easing away
overnight.

Areas of cloud with west to southwest breezes easing around midnight, any
showers clearing this evening.
