East and west; wet and dry – The Big Picture on Wednesday

On Wednesday we have a northwesterly airflow lying over most of New Zealand, bringing showers in the west for most while it’s sunnier with higher temperatures out east.

Meanwhile, a southerly wind change is working its way into the lower South Island, and makes its way into Canterbury during the evening.
Showers will move into the west of the North Island in the afternoon, some of which may be heavy with thunderstorms.

All of this is churning around a low which is centred out to the east of the South Island, offshore.
