Decline of water quality blamed for erosion of ‘clean green’ image

The rapid decline New Zealand’s water quality is being called the biggest threat to our clean green reputation.

Massey University professor Dr Mike Joy will deliver the 2014 Bruce Jesson lecture at The Maidment Theatre tonight in Auckland.

He says the thing that’s hurting New Zealand the most is the intensification of dairy farming, and we need to look at how economically viable it actually is for the county.

“Dairy is not paying its externalities. Lots of debt for the future is being loaded up on New Zealanders while this one industry makes a real mess of the place.”
