Australia is sweltering today under an intense heatwave with temperatures in the mid to late 40s…Celsius.

Our friends at Weatherzone in Australia have been tweeting the big headlines this afternoon:

Penrith has had its hottest day in at least 23 years, reaching 46.9 degrees, 18 degrees above average
Forbes in #westernNSW scorched by hottest day in 135 years, reaching 46.5 degrees
Canberra now having hottest spell in 50 years, exceeding 41 degrees for two days running
