Hi, im wanting to take my family on a road trip from Auckland to Northland (kaitaia, cape reinga, hokianga etc)

Was planning on going mid next week for a week (12th onwards) but the weather is looking dicey already…would you recommend putting it off until the week of the 16th?

Normally the weather is lovely and stable this time of year – but it seems nothing about the weather is stable anymore!

WW Forecast Team on 8/02/2026 6:27am

Hi Kelly, at this stage some low pressure this coming week (12th+) will bring in some showers, or areas of rain. From the 16th onwards looks better, but there are a few subtropical lows in the mix this month, so it’s a bit hard to do long range accuracy for Northland when this happens. Our next weather video will be on Monday Feb 9th.
Cheers and good luck planning.

hi guys does nelson have a chance of going to drought this summer or are we doing ok for rainfall?

WW Forecast Team on 5/02/2026 7:16am

You’ve had more rain than usual – so you’re fine. https://niwa.co.nz/climate-and-weather/daily-climate-maps

Phil I realise that the forecast for Waharoa is auto generated but when I did CPL MET exams I learnt that we are unlikely to get fog with breezy winds.

WW Forecast Team on 5/02/2026 12:39am

Hi Christoper – take a look at our fog graphs here, as it breaks down the specific risk times and only generates when winds are below 8km/h. https://www.ruralweather.co.nz/forecasts/Waharoa,%20Waikato Note: Fog messaging can also be for low cloud just above the ground.
Cheers
Phil
