As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.
We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

Hey WeatherWatch.
I’m hosting a pre family Christmas on the Norh Shore of Auckland on the 20th..
I have a great outdoor area, but limited into space.
How’s the weather shaping for pnfor next Saturday. I kinda see showers, basically wet.. Any thing positive???
Thx

Hi Joel, does look like some wet weather possible in the morning (although working out timing 5 days out is tricky) so the positive based on today’s forecast is that Saturday PM looks drier than Saturday AM. You may find the weather graphs at RuralWeather more helpful (covers North Shore suburbs too): https://www.ruralweather.co.nz/forecasts/Auckland
A cold front is moving up NZ on Friday and Saturday – so there will be wind and showers moving through a number of NZ places for a time, along with a noticeable temperature drop.

Hi Bryce – Check out today’s weather video, as it covers the forecast right up to (and including) Christmas Day. It’s not yet locked in though, but for now looks dry then in that area. Our next video update is out on Thursday, and our forecasts here at WeatherWatch go 10 days out (so that now covers Christmas Eve as of today/Monday, and tomorrow will include the first forecast for Christmas Day).

Any reason why I’m seeing 12 and 13 degrees in the forecast next week for Invercargill in December? I know our summer doesn’t usually start for a while but these westerly’s are out the gate man. It’s been constant we’ve hit 20 degrees like once the whole summer

Hi Phil, check out my weather video today as I talk about it – but basically a stormier Southern Ocean and a lack of real high pressure over NZ looks to encourage a decent burst of polar air (sub-Antarctic). If you go by the astronomical calendar for our seasons (the sun’s journey around the sun) then it’s still technically spring for another week….if that helps? 😀

Kia ora guys, I am fascinated by cloud formations and their relationship to the whenua as well as conditions in the air. Is there an informative resource you could direct me to that would help me broaden my knowledge?

Kia ora Carolyn, there are a couple of good sites to check to learn more about clouds.
1) World Meteorological Organisation: https://wmo.int/world-meteorological-day-2017/classifying-clouds
2) Cloud Atlas (extremely detailed with thousands of cloud photos/types) https://cloudatlas.wmo.int/en/home.html
Hope that helps!
