As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.
Weβre a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather.Β You can find more resources from us here if thatβs your thing.
Have questions of a commercial nature? Contact us directly here.
Thanks for your support!
Donβt forget to check out our RuralWeather.co.nzΒ website (great for event planning or attending + camping!) and also, our brand new Weather Alerting App!

Is there anyway we can see rainfall in last 24hrs from stations.
A bit exhausting getting up at midnight, recording accumulated rainfall for the day, then adding it to the 8am readingβ¦β¦

Sadly both MetService (and what was Niwa β now Earth Sciences) commercialise access and display of tax funded historical data. Put simply, last time we asked NZβs two Government Agencies for public historical weather data we were told it would be 1 million dollars or more per year (Niwa). Free in all other modern nations. Weβre as frustrated as you are, but βThe Crownβ is a commercial business as much as it is as Government. According to the New Zealand Commerce Commission or Government βnothing can be done about thisβ.

there seems to be a rain/downpour train stuck over northland and Auckland atm. a bit concerning given what is forecasted for tommorow.

Why can I not see the current temperature for Huntly? Itβs been like this for a week or so

Hi Jess, we are looking in to it. It may simply be the owners of those stations have them offline/moved. But will double check.
Cheers
