As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.
We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

Thanks for your support!
Don’t forget to check out our RuralWeather.co.nz website (great for event planning or attending + camping!) and also, our brand new Weather Alerting App!

Hey I just want to say thank you. I’ve been constantly amazed at how accurate modern weather forecasting is. I appreciate the regular updates you make, and I like the way your forecasting is presented here better than other weather apps/pages. Kudos!

Hi Jon, thank you very much for the kind comment. While 100% accuracy is still a thing for well in the future on this planet, it’s uplifting to get a comment like yours. I’m personally always blown away (no pun intended!!) when modelling can pick a storm 2 weeks away when it hasn’t even started to form yet.
Thanks again,
Phil D

Just wondering why Metservice reported that 43mm fell in an hour in Matamata around midday, but WW is only showing 13mm accumulated for the whole day so far. Why the discrepancy? Thanks.

Because most weather stations aren’t in the same place. If a downpour hit the MetService station but not our one, that is why.
We are working closer with MetService and expect them to eventually start sharing public data with us in the future so we can show even more weather stations. But remember a weather station is just one dot in someone’s garden or building – it’s not the entire town.
Also, if you look at the rain radar today you will see how messy/lumpy the downpours are.
Hope that helps!
Cheers

Hi there, what specifically has been wrong? Also, do you watch Phil’s weather videos? If you do, he usually points out when the forecasts are likely to “break” – today is a good example of that actually. Our video will be out before noon.
