As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.
We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

Kia ora guys, I am fascinated by cloud formations and their relationship to the whenua as well as conditions in the air. Is there an informative resource you could direct me to that would help me broaden my knowledge?

Kia ora Carolyn, there are a couple of good sites to check to learn more about clouds.
1) World Meteorological Organisation: https://wmo.int/world-meteorological-day-2017/classifying-clouds
2) Cloud Atlas (extremely detailed with thousands of cloud photos/types) https://cloudatlas.wmo.int/en/home.html
Hope that helps!

Hi Jet, drought is possible every summer in NZ, but for now there are no signs of drought for you. Nelson itself is showing signs of drying out, but the region is still in a very good set up. Would need little to no rain for at least 6 weeks to even get closer to that territory.
Cheers
Phil

And in Whangarei we had 5mm since Monday! Certainly very hard to forecast.
Thanks for all the good work this year Phil, I hope you have some quiet holiday weeks before we get into cyclone season 🙂
