Before asking us a question:
We love to have comments and questions posted here at WeatherWatch.co.nz - but before you ask a long range weather question (ie, beyond our 10 day forecast above) please check our interactive maps page first! This link will take you to our Rain, Wind, Swell, Temperature maps and more - going out 10 days.

Hi there, you can search for Glen Eden specifically on the homepage but at this stage probably 25 to 29 degrees generally. The heatwave will be felt mostly inland over the country and to the east but some inland parts of Auckland wll be closer to 30 degrees mid week including the Glen Eden area.

THe hourly forecasts and the current forecasts (the ones from The Weather Company) they are specific to your area. We write a generic Auckland forecast as it's the most accurate and takes into account most of the main microclimates - we're the only forecaster to do this. The hourly data is specific to your suburb though.
Cheers, hope you enjoy our free service,

Good afternoon, On Tuesday
Good afternoon,
On Tuesday and Wednesday there is a chance some parts of Auckland will reach the late 20s and possibly 30, however with coastal sea breezes they can knock the temperature back by several degrees. Henderson and Henderson Valley are most likely to be the hottest parts of Henderson being lower down and further inland. It looks like southern rural Auckland is most likely to reach closest to 30 next week.
Cheers

Next week is hotter with
Next week is hotter with highs in the late 20s possible inland and mid 20s in coastal areas. For Auckland to be really hot in summer you need either a light Sou'Easter or a brisk north to north west wind. These directions don't look so common at the moment sadly.
Cheers

Hey there, it will depend on the specific weather set up at the time (as we saw this week the east coast has had both temps in the early 30s and temps in the teens!). Generally speaking eastern NZ in mid Feb is very sunny and settled but we can't be sure this far out. Check the weather maps and forecasts within 10 days of going and you'll get a much more accurate idea. All the best and have a great time on the cruise :)

Hi there, yes Dunedin is just
Hi there, yes Dunedin is just a little too far south for this heatwave as the stream of warm air from Aussie and the sub-tropics is fairly narrow. If it makes you feel better Auckland in the north will also be missing some of this heat too :) The cold snap you had on Thursday was definitely not your normal mid-summer weather and the good news is that we do see more settled, warmer, weather coming your way as we end January and go into February. Hopefully Feb will be a bit hotter for you! All the best Indy :)
Cheers

Hi DJ, there is a good chance some parts of inland and rural Auckland will be similar to Waikato (so yes, late 20s and even 30 possible). But many suburbs that are coastal will be cooler. I think our forecast highs may creep up a degree or two but generally Auckland isn't quite so hot as other regions (but it will still feel hot to those who don't like hot weather!).

Hi Jayne, you'll need to
Hi Jayne, you'll need to contact MetService or NIWA for rainfall figures as even though us Kiwis tax fund this system, we can't then actually share that tax owned data without paying a significantly astronomical fee to do so. However we can tell you forecast-wise, at no charge :), that rainfall in your area looks below average for the next week or two ahead, in fact it may be very dry. Sorry I know that's not the answer you're probably wanting - here's hoping for a rain maker from the north in mid to late Feb. Hope that is of some help to your decision making.
All the very best,
Phil D
Long-term forecast for Feb
Morning Simon, cheers for the
Morning Simon, cheers for the questions.
At this stage we see no significant change in this pattern - meaning February looks drier than average for Auckland unless we get a tropical/subtropical rainmaker. The tropics don't look active north of NZ until mid-Feb while the series of big highs from Aussie look set to continue. Perhaps in mid Feb there is a chance these highs could sink further south (which Southland, Otago and the West Coast would like) and this might see a shift to more easterlies in northern NZ. Drier than normal for the next week or two ahead. No storms at this stage but maybe a cyclone near Vanuatu in two weeks time.
Cheers

Thanks Phil, much appreciated

The unusual windy conditions over the last two months.Wind
Hey Paul, thanks for the
Hey Paul, thanks for the question and you raise a great point. Basically the Southern Ocean is quite windy and stormy at the moment. The belt of highs - the centres of them - aren't lying perfectly over NZ so we're not in that nice calm zone. Over the South Island and lower North Island today winds are very strong/gale in some areas and so these winds basically fade away the further north you go, but places like Auckland are wind tunnels for sou'westers and westerlies when the South Island has gale Nor'Westers. We have a calmer week next week and more nor'easters and nor'westers in the mix. NZ is so small that highs and lows can easily dwarf us and weather patterns around NZ are chaotic - so every year is usually different :)

Auckland wind
Hey there, great question
Hey there, great question 'Hopeful' ! For the next week there are two storms in the Southern Ocean, both are bringing wind and rain to parts of the South Island and around Cook Strait. The North Island is on the outer edges of both of these storms but we're getting a little bit of the wake from it all, some extra cloud, sometimes a bit windy and perhaps a shower or two - especially on Thursday. Next week looks more settled at this stage :)

Wedding in march
Hi there, thanks for the
Hi there, thanks for the question but it's too early to know sorry. The current pattern certainly favours more settled weather in northern NZ and the Far North is one of the driest parts of the country right now. The tropics are pretty quiet directly north of NZ but a small low will be forming around late Jan/early Feb. As for late Feb or March itself we can't give forecasts until about 14 to 10 days out so perhaps ask us again in mid Feb.
Cheers and all the best

november and december 2018 thunderstorms
Hi there We go through
Hi there
We go through patterns, some are quiet like we have been having recently (generalising here), some are unstable and an unstable pattern can often involve thunderstorms. More specifically what caused those storms? Thunderstorms require warm surface temperatures / humidity and relatively colder air aloft, often a trigger is involved also like converging winds. More info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderstorm

Suburb forecasts
Hi there, if your phone isn't
Hi there, if your phone isn't automatically doing it you can type the suburb name into the search bar on the homepage or by clicking here. We overide some of the data if we think we can do better, but anything from TWC will be local (including the hourly forecasts within our WW ones). We are making improvements this year to our entire website and layout to make this a little easier to find - and to improve suburb forecasting with special lightning data and eventually rain radar too.
Cheers
WW
Local suburbs
Auckland regions
Hi Mel - great question!
Hi Mel - great question! Firstly, WeatherWatch offers FAR more forecast locations than both tax funded NIWA & MetService combined. They offer a handful, we have localisd forecasts for every single suburb in the city and small town within the big Auckland region. However, our general Auckland forecasts are more localised than the MetService "local" forecasts. For example in Kumeu's MetService forecast we have often seen references to Great Barrier Island, which is odd. In our "general" Auckland forecast we already pinpoint local suburbs like yours - on top of that we also add a local layer of live information when a major event happens, such as a severe thunderstorm and we will specifically mention your area if need be. Our hourly info in our forecasts is specific too. Watch this space in 2019 - we're stepping up our Local and Live updating even more!
Cheers :)
