As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.

We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

hi there, I came here just to see if there was any article or if the question has been asked already…? but just very curious to learn why the weather in the upper North island has become so incredibly HOT all of a sudden???

WW Forecast Team on 10/11/2025 12:12am

Hi Paul, High pressure north of NZ is pulling down subtropical air from around New Caledonia/southern Vanuatu and the Coral Sea area. The placement of that high is helping drag down that humid summer-like air. This should ease back in the coming days/nights. It’s been well above average/normal for parts of NZ over the past week due to these airflows.

Cheers,
Phil D

Passing heavy showers in Waharoa.

Sylvia on 28/10/2025 11:15pm

Wow, the rain and the wind were so strong yesterday in Auckland. I just watched the board on our fences fly from the strength of the wind. Downpours were incredibly strong as well.

josh on 29/10/2025 10:49pm

yes squally weather Tuesday afternoon here south Auckland as well also those overnight labour day/Tuesday before dawn thunderstorms and heavy rain from the active cold front.

Kat on 28/10/2025 6:37am

WOW, at 7:34pm, tonight Hamilton West got hit witha very squally storm. Sideways rain and all.

josh on 27/10/2025 9:14pm

hey phil. that was a active night in Auckland. thunder/lightning and heavy rain/downpours. snow in Canterbury from the sounds of it. when will this active relentless pattern end?

are we in for a late summer?

WW Forecast Team on 28/10/2025 2:39am

Hey Josh, our ClimateWatch video is out on Friday and we expect to see some spring pattern continuing on into December. Will have a better idea end of the week (and going into mid November).

Hey the station IHASTI143 always seems to have highly inaccurate wind readings. Is it in a sheltered spot?

WW Forecast Team on 26/10/2025 7:54am

Hi Chris, often the town/city locations don’t have good wind data due to fences, buildings or simply the station not set in a good location. We’re working with MetService to get better wind and rainfall observations from the data already owned by the NZ Government and hope to be able to display that later in 2026.
