As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.

We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

Thanks for your support!

Don’t forget to check out our RuralWeather.co.nz website (great for event planning or attending + camping!) and also, our brand new Weather Alerting App!

We are planning to walk the Lake Waikaremoana track starting on Monday the 19th.
Will the rainfall in that week be significant or on and off?

WW Forecast Team on 14/01/2026 11:56pm

Hi Caro, next week looks to have easterlies and showers around Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne, pushing inland to some degree. Nothing too serious in the rainfall category though, and winds a little brisk in exposed places but no gales at this stage. Severe weather risks are more likely around Thursday/Friday if that tropical low drops down our way. So that’s worth keeping an eye on.
Cheers and have a great time 🙂

hey phillip looking at your video its looking a lot like la nina starting to dominate nz weather?

Shaun on 10/01/2026 8:28pm

Hi Phil

Can we expect some good rain on east coast (west BOP) from the Nth. Qld cyclone

WW Forecast Team on 11/01/2026 7:31pm

Hi Shaun, not quite the same low but a new system that will form near it may produce some rain for western BoP: https://www.weatherwatch.co.nz/maps-radars/rain/cumulative-rainfall
Cheers

Hello, just saw that IAUCKL939 is not showing any readings as of the moment.

Thank you very much for all your hard work for forecasting over the holidays and adding more weather stations in Auckland! The forecasts are the most accurate and I enjoy being able to see how much rain there is per area as well.

You go to one website to tell people to go to another website scaremongering everyone. How about you trust the website you’re currently on.

A Happy New Year to you Phil and all the team that make WW the great weather service that it has become over the last 15 years.
And all without the millions of dollars that the MetOffice and Niwa suck up every year and still provide a sub par weather service in return.
I wish you could become the National weather forecaster!
Enjoy your well earned break and I am looking forward to the return of the little green hand 🙂
