Hi ya, Heading from Napier to Taupo for Christmas eve – day and returning Boxing Day what’s the outlook for that period ?

Phil on 11/12/2025 11:56pm

Any reason why I’m seeing 12 and 13 degrees in the forecast next week for Invercargill in December? I know our summer doesn’t usually start for a while but these westerly’s are out the gate man. It’s been constant we’ve hit 20 degrees like once the whole summer

Kia ora guys, I am fascinated by cloud formations and their relationship to the whenua as well as conditions in the air. Is there an informative resource you could direct me to that would help me broaden my knowledge?

WW Forecast Team on 9/12/2025 8:22pm

Kia ora Carolyn, there are a couple of good sites to check to learn more about clouds.
1) World Meteorological Organisation: https://wmo.int/world-meteorological-day-2017/classifying-clouds
2) Cloud Atlas (extremely detailed with thousands of cloud photos/types) https://cloudatlas.wmo.int/en/home.html

Hope that helps!

Hi guys is it possible Nelson might have drought this summer or is it unlikely also what caused the Nelson drought in 2019

WW Forecast Team on 8/12/2025 10:16pm

Hi Jet, drought is possible every summer in NZ, but for now there are no signs of drought for you. Nelson itself is showing signs of drying out, but the region is still in a very good set up. Would need little to no rain for at least 6 weeks to even get closer to that territory.
Cheers
Phil
