As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.

We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

hi guys is nelson gonna lean wetter then average in march what are u guys seeing in term of nelson weather its been dry here for ages everyone really needs to rain

Terry Davies on 29/02/2024 3:35am

Hi Guys, can you explain why we are getting so much cloud in Christchurch, even when we are supposed to get clear skies it still is cloudy. Today was forecast clear skies this afternoon and evening but after 1 hour of clear skies it is already clouding over again. Thanks

WW Forecast Team on 29/02/2024 4:07am

Hi Terry, high pressure is crossing the South Island today and sometimes than can bring ‘anticyclonic gloom’ and stubborn cloudy areas – and at this time of year low cloud/fog/mist too. Nor’Easters with high pressure can bring that perfect recipe for cloud that won’t burn off in eastern NZ. In Wellington that NE flow can curve around as a Sou’Easter and bring fog over the airport while the rest of the city is sunny and cloud free.

thanks. for auckland will it just be patchy rain? gentle rain from last system. a better way to end a dry spell is gentle rain. not heavy torrential rain that we saw last year in auckland lol.

WW Forecast Team on 27/02/2024 11:07pm

Check our Auckland rainfall totals – so far it’s not very much (10 to 15mm)

Hello i have a question do you know what the pressure of the cold front when it moves onto the south island on Monday and Which areas will see snow and where we will see Heavy Rain and which areas will see Severe gales and which areas will see Severe Thunderstorms

WW Forecast Team on 27/02/2024 9:51pm

Hi there.
1) You can check barometric pressure hourly for 10 days out for all NZ locations via Daily Data in our NEW App – or via RuralWeather.co.nz (both are free to view)
2) It’s a low pressure zone moving into the South Island – doesn’t look like a clean single front sweeping up. So timing is tricky. But again, using our App the temperature graphs show when the cold air arrives.
3) The mountains will see snow. If snow is forecast for a main centre it will show the snow symbol. No snow symbol = no snow.
4) View our latest weather video out around lunchtime/early afternoon at WeatherWatchTV as we focus on what you ask: https://www.youtube.com/c/WeatherWatchNZ1

Cheers
