Strong 5.1, very shallow, quake hits Chch

UPDATED

Locals are reporting what felt like the strongest earthquake since Saturday's 7.1 quake.

GeoNet reports the earthquake was very shallow, at a depth of just 6 kms and measured 5.1 on the richter scale.

Traffic lights are out in some areas.

GeoNet expects some minor damage from the quake.
